Understanding English teaching practices
Teaching in England pose real challenges to teachers who trained overseas especially young teacher who are straight out of university.
The school structure is very different and concepts like teaching assistants, Ofsted and may others are completely alien to overseas the teachers.
It is necessary for the teachers to gain an in-depth knowledge of the education system in England before they attend an interview.
Let’s look at the difference in even understanding “Key Stages” for a Canadian teacher.
Therefore, to bridge this “knowledge gap” the first stage of the Uteach Candidates Training Programme is to provide the teachers with information on the UK system, including the systems and curriculum that they will encounter.
We invested in developing our own bespoke online learning platform with specific modules to help the teachers gain a detailed understanding of the English system.
In addition, they will be given access to a wealth of resources, videos and links to provide them with information on all areas of the UK education system.
Lesson plan training
They will also be trained in how to plan lessons for the UK system, and taken through the steps to produce their own lesson.
Another area of training provided in depth is preparing the candidates for interview.
In addition to e-learning the teachers will receive one to one training with a member of our education team, taking them through a mock interview and developing their answers to ensure that they give their best possible account of themselves at interview.
The Uteach Education team consists of experienced teachers many of whom have held senior posts in UK schools, and it is their responsibility to prepare the candidates for interview.
If asked to attend a face to face interview the candidates will also be able to discuss the lesson plan and lesson for teaching at interview.
