Why are international teachers needed?
The teaching profession in the UK is facing a critical moment. In 2024, only 41,700 new teachers joined the workforce — the lowest intake on record, and 1,400 fewer than the year before. This growing shortfall is reflected in unfilled vacancies, which remain significantly higher than pre-pandemic levels — over six times higher than in 2010–2011.
At the same time, there is a renewed commitment to diversity and inclusion in schools. As classrooms become increasingly multicultural, it's more important than ever that staffrooms reflect the diversity of the students they serve. Every year there are over 70,000 overseas teachers in schools in England, showing just how important they are to the education sector. Uteach is proud to support this mission by connecting schools with talented teachers from all backgrounds — helping fill the gap while building more representative, inclusive education environments.
Costs of Sponsorship visas to schools
Employing overseas teachers in the UK involves several costs for schools, primarily related to sponsorship and visa requirements. These include fees for the Skilled Worker visa, Certificate of Sponsorship, and Immigration Skills Charge. You can find an overview, including all costs, in the link below:

What our Clients say
I have worked with Uteach at both Wilmington Grammar School for Boys and my previous comprehensive school, and as a result, we have successfully recruited and retained teachers from both Ireland and Spain. The resources and lessons Uteach provide their teachers are a useful starting point for the lesson planning process and allow teachers quickly to get up to speed with the demands of our curriculum. In particular, they provide content, structure and an opportunity to learn how to deliver the kind of activities that are common in our schools which reduces workload and allows them to focus on developing positive working relationships with their classes. The ongoing support offered by the team at Uteach ensures that the transition to England is smooth and the teachers can thrive in our school
